Welcome to WordTrunk. This page covers the most common questions for new users.
Getting started
The first three things worth doing. New accounts see these as a checklist on the dashboard, which retires itself once they are done.
- Set your display name. Select your name in the greeting at the top of any page and type the one you want.
- Add a column to a word set. Columns are the grammatical forms you are learning — a plural, a past tense, a formal form. Open Vocabulary and add one to see how a word set grows sideways.
- Complete a revision session. As soon as your first word has been revised all the way through, the rest of the dashboard and the Stats tab unlock.
How do I confirm my account?
Open your signup email and select the confirmation button. If the button does not work, use the fallback link in the same email.
I did not receive an email.
Check your spam folder, then try signing up again. If you still do not receive it, contact support and we will help.
What happens after confirmation?
You are signed in and redirected into WordTrunk, where you can start adding vocabulary immediately.
How do I share vocabulary with someone else?
Open Vocabulary, choose Share, then Export. Tick the word sets you want and untick anything you do not want to send. Download the file and pass it on however you like — email, a shared drive, a messaging app. The person receiving it opens Vocabulary, Share, Import and chooses the file.
What happens to my revision progress when I import?
It is kept, except where a pack corrects an answer you already have. New words and blanks that get filled in never affect anything you have already learned. When a pack replaces one of your answers, that answer was different from the one you had been revising, so your progress on that one item starts again and you learn the corrected form from scratch — only that item, not the whole word. You can see exactly how many items this affects before you confirm, and there is a toggle to keep the progress if you are sure your own version was right.
I am a teacher. How do I send my class an updated pack later?
Edit your existing word set rather than deleting it and building a new one, then export it again. A pack carries hidden identifiers from the set it came from, so an edited set is recognised as the same one and your students merge the update into what they already have, keeping their revision progress. A set that is deleted and rebuilt gets new identifiers, and the app cannot tell it apart from a brand-new pack — so your students would end up with duplicates instead of an update. Note that spreadsheet (CSV) files cannot carry those identifiers, so use the WordTrunk file if you may send an update later.
